You may experience contaminated oil as the possibility of engine oil getting mixed with coolant is high due to a failing head gasket with the Triumph Tiger 1050. Moreover, when the engine is idle, it can cause an annoying noise in the cylinder, and you may notice blue smoke coming from the exhaust.

Fork Seals on Tiger 1050. I have just renew the fork seals on my Tiger 1050. Tech data states that the amount of oil required is 581cc, fully compressed with spring in and adjuster rod (with lock nut) fully down. Then add additional oil in order to bring the level up to 30mm from the top. Very little was required to bring level up to 30mm.

Worst Years: 2006 Tiger 1050. The worst year Triumph Tiger has to be 2006 1050, due to sticking problems with the master cylinder’s pistons. The pistons had a problem sliding passed their seals because the master cylinder diameter wasn’t big enough. ’06 Tiger 1050 riders occasionally dealt with their piston retracting too far from the rotor.

Production Years: 1938 to 1959. The Triumph Tiger 100 debuted in 1939 but war prevented further development and production was suspended in 1940 when the Triumph factory was destroyed by German bombers. Originally the compression was 7.75:1, there were 7x1.125 inch hubs front and back, and the tyres were 26x3.00 front and 26x3.50 rear.

I was due to go to Australia on R&R from Vietnam in April 1969 but I was wounded and medivaced home a few weeks before my R&R was to start.

Fork oil change for 1050. Hang the bike up. Loosen the lower pinch bolts, be carefull, the fork may now drop. remove the fork, then unscrew the top cap and drain the oil. U can use plastic, like credit card to pop the dust seal, spray Wd-40 or something there and move it around, it brings out dirt.
Dry fill: .92 US Gallon. Oil/Filter change: .84 US Gallon. Oil Change only: .80 US Gallon. They of course don't mention this in the maintenance section, where they talk about oil changes, but do list it under specs in the back of the book. Hope this helps, vinny.
